In reply to Meurigs letter regarding costs for league shoots I feel Meurig has taken a rather simplistic view to costs, yes 50 clays would cost about £3.00 but he disregards the cost of equipment, for example:
12 traps approx. £10000.00 spread over 10 years £1000.00 per year
12 batteries @£60.00 £720.00 over 3 years £240.00 per year
Maintenance of traps £200.00 per year
Insurance £400.00 per year
ground rent approx. £200.00 per year

total £2040.00 per year
Assuming 13 shoots per year £156.00 per shoot
12 shoots with 20 people shooting
1 league shoot with 100 people shooting
A total of 340 which gives an average of 26 per shoot
Therefore £156.00 divided by 26 gives a cost per person shooting of £6.00.
This shows that the true cost of 50 birds is £9.00 per person so at £7.00 we are actually losing money at every shoot.
I think this shows that the league is providing cheap shooting for its members. It is the club members subscriptions and donations which keep our clubs afloat.
