Start of Season by Stuart Hall (March 2006)
The members of the Teifi Valley Clay Target League are loading up for a new season and aiming to repeat the successes of last year. This year’s competition starts with Castell Howell Club holding the first League shoot on Saturday 8 April at 2 p.m.
There are in total 6 clubs competing to unseat Whitland Club from the top position they have held for the past two years.
Clayshooters have recently been competing in selection shoots for a place in the Dyfed Sporting Team. League members have secured 13 of the 16 available positions and will compete against the other Welsh Counties in April, hoping to repeat the successes of previous Dyfed teams over the last few years.
March 2006 saw the first of the Welsh International Sporting team shoots for places in Team Wales at the World Sporting Championships to be held this year in England in August, and the Home Sporting International which will be held in Wales in September. It is hoped that League members will be able to repeat the successes of last year’s competitions, where Bleddyn Lewis of Llandysul Club and Nick Parish of Whitland Club won the Juniors’ team bronze medals at the World Sporting Championships in Texas, and Junior team silver at the Home Sporting International in Ireland . For the Veterans, Stuart Hall of Castell Howell Club won team bronze in Texas and team silver in Ireland.
Clay shooting is a sport that can be enjoyed by members of both sexes and all ages, with classes to suit all abilities. The Teifi Valley League currently has six classes in which members can compete at competitions throughout the year, and with assistance and advice being freely given to newcomers at club level.
