TVCTL Shooters at The World Championships by Chris Hassett 23rd August 2006
Recently I had the opportunity to travel to the World Sporting Championships, held at Somerly House, near Bournemouth.
Since I was there I thought a brief report might be appreciated by members of the TVCTL.
Dave Barnett Snr. & Blethin Lewis Jnr., from the Whitland gun club had been selected to shoot for Wales.
The Layout for the event was designed by Richard Faulds MBE.
The shoot was arranged over 2 courses. Red 14 stands - Blue 13 stands. Each competitor shot
morning/Sat---Afternoon/Sun or Afternoon/Sat ----morning/Sun.
The event was squaded and the first competitor to shoot sequential rotated, on each stand.
Prior to the start all competitors for Sat. morning moved to their allotted first stand. That was 335 people.
Prompt at 9.00am shots rang out.
On the stand I was viewing, a breakdown occurred after the 3rd competitor. Much fun and frustration ensued for the rest of the morning, since many traps were failing.
After 2days Dave Barnett scored 73------71
Blethin Lewis scored 66-------73
Points noted at the targets, no traps were visible to the shooter in the cage. The use of natural features was magnificent and did cause some mis-reading of the targets.
Many stands seemed similar to target thrown in the TVCTL, however it was soon apparent that the speed of target was much faster.
Simultaneous pair were used often. All I think being set so there was no choice in deciding, which was to be taken first.
A number of Battue traps were in use, and raises the question. were in the TVCTL can people experience these targets?
